Overview
At Valnet Inc., home to 20+ high-traffic content brands (Screenrant, Gamerant, SimpleFlying, etc.), inconsistency across sites slowed production and reduced brand cohesion. My role was to lead the creation of a centralized design system.
Challenge
- Multiple teams using different component libraries and inconsistent styles.
- Long design-to-dev handoff times due to lack of standardized specs.
- Accessibility standards not applied consistently.
Process
- Audit – Reviewed design files and front-end code from all brands.
- Core Library Creation – Built a master Figma library with typography, colors, grids, and UI components.
- Component Standardization – Created reusable, responsive modules (nav bars, article cards, CTAs).
- Documentation – Developed usage guidelines and accessibility best practices.
- Implementation – Partnered with dev teams to integrate components into the shared codebase.
Outcome
- A single source of truth for all designers and developers.
- Faster iteration on new features and brand refreshes.
Results
- 37% faster design-to-development handoff.
- Bounce rates reduced by 22% across redesigned templates.
- Accessibility compliance improved to WCAG 2.1 AA level across all brands.
